Alan Bush

Alan Bush founded The Bush Law Firm to serve businesses. His firm focuses on labor and employment law, often litigating disputes with employees. Alan also counsels with businesses on HR policies. He emphasizes the areas where solid HR practices return the greatest impact on competitive edge and working capital.

Alan speaks and publishes for many business organizations. For example, the Houston CPA Society named him Speaker of the Year 2010-2011. He also speaks for HR Houston, and he is a guest columnist for The Houston Business Journal and Texas Lawyer.

After work is done, Alan enjoys running, live music and backyard grilling. Most of all, he struggles to figure out how his blonde and red-headed daughters can beat him at Candy Land.

Representative Experience

  • Faced with an ex-employee who had stolen a client's business secrets and was starting a competing business in a key foreign market, quickly secured a temporary restraining order and negotiated a permanent order keeping the ex-employee out of that market.
  • Prosecuted a trade secret lawsuit to a successful resolution, protecting a client's designs for capital air pollution control equipment from an ex-employee who had launched a direct competitor to manufacture the same equipment.
  • Representing an ex-employee sued for violating a non-compete, defeated two requests for temporary orders and secured a final summary judgment that exonerated the client.
  • Defended against a non-compete lawsuit filed against a start-up company to a successful resolution that allowed the company to continue pursuing its key markets.
  • Defended against a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit to a favorable settlement.
  • Brokered a settlement for an employer sued by two ex-employees for overtime wages, before they could invite other employees and ex-employees to join the suit.
  • Drafted employee handbooks with an eye towards limiting exposure under state and federal employment laws.
  • In a fiduciary duty dispute, defeated a temporary injunction request that would have shut down the clients business operations.
  • Prosecuted and defended against fraud and breach of contract claims.
